Tooth Colored Fillings / Cosmetic Fillings in Irvine

Irvine Childrens Dentistry:

We Provide Quality Tooth-Colored Fillings

Having practiced Irvine childrens dentistry for years we know that sometimes, no matter how much we teach our children about the importance of brushing their teeth and flossing, and no matter how often we supervise while they brush and floss, our children will still manage to develop a cavity.

They come to the dentist ready to show their clean white teeth and you hear that word. Most cavities will develop in those back teeth. You know the ones that are the hardest to reach, the ones that might be missed even with the best attempts at brushing and flossing.

We know that your child is trying his or her hardest to practice their best dental hygiene by brushing and flossing twice a day and after eating sweets. And we know that you care about your children’s teeth too.

So for your child’s cavity, we offer tooth-colored fillings so that when their cavity is filled, it won’t even be noticed by others.

There are different materials that dentists use for tooth fillings and your dentist will suggest the type of tooth filling material that is right for you. But most often you will be able to choose fillings that are the same color as your tooth so that the filling doesn’t show. With tooth-colored fillings it is possible to have fillings and no one will ever know! And sometimes this is especially important when we think in terms of our children’s teeth.

What is a Tooth-Colored Filling?

Tooth-colored fillings are created from a synthetic type of filling that is produced from a combination of plastic and glass materials. These synthetic – or man made – types of fillings literally bond to the tooth to create a more strong filling, which is also important when you think in terms of getting fillings that are going to last for many years.

Process of Receiving a Filling

Preparing a cavity to be filled is a basic process. Your dentist will clean the tooth thoroughly, cleaning out any debris and bacteria that may remain inside the cavity, and then clear away the jagged edges of the cavity.

Now it’s time for your dentist to make the first step in the process of adding the tooth-colored fillings. If the cavity is deep enough to be close to the root of the tooth, your dentist will first put in a material to line the bottom of the cavity to protect the nerve.

The tooth-colored fillings will be added in layers. After each layer of the tooth-colored fillings is added in, a special dental tool with a light is used that hardens each layer before the next layer is added. Layer by layer, composite material is added, until the tooth-colored fillings are completed.

Once your child’s fillings are complete, your dentist will provide you with any instructions needed for the care of your child’s new fillings, and will talk to your child about the importance of caring for teeth every day. Together you and your dentist are working to safeguard your children’s beautiful smiles.
